Melvin Douglas “Flash” Gibson, 80, of Rockford went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 22, 2020. He was born March 28, 1939 in Birmingham, AL, to Mattie Mae Flowers and Willie E. Gibson. He was raised by his grandparents Frank and Eddie Mae Flowers. Melvin retired from Quaker Oats Co. and returned to work as a school bus driver for Rockford School District 205. He loved children and was fondly called the Candy Man. He was known for being a flashy dresser which is where his nickname “Flash” came from. He owned motorcycles and loved to ride. He was a proud member of The Brothers M.C. He had a loving personality and was a people person. He will be dearly missed.
Melvin leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife, Elaine and their son Tyrece Gibson, sons Melvin Davis, Jr., Keith Davis, and Chris (Jasmin) Davis, daughter Tonya Davis, a host of nieces, nephews’ other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, brother, James Colquitt.
Private services will be held, due to recent health concerns. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
