Mattie E. Nipps, age 87, of Machesney Park, Illinois passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024. She was born on August 18, 1937 to James and Vada Hanson. She married the love of her life, Coy Weldon Nipps in Rockford, May 22, 1954 and they spent 42 wonderful years together before he passed in 1996. Mattie was a long-standing member of North Park Church of Christ.
Mattie enjoyed spending time in her garden with her flowers, traveling, and going on outings with her friends. She always rooted for the Chicago Cubs. Christmas was Mattie’s favorite holiday, especially because she got to spend time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Gwen Holley, Terry Nipps, and Philip Nipps; grandchildren, Melissa (Brandon) Montgomery, Eric Holley, Alan (Anna) McCracken-Nipps, and Serena (Andy) Laponsie; and great-grandchildren, Isabel, Ethan, and Hailey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Weldon Nipps; parents, James and Vada Hanson; and siblings, Elizabeth Hanson and Jack Hanson.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mattie’s whole hospice team, especially Nick and Lily for the love and care they provided to her in this time.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Association.
A visitation for Mattie will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Illinois 61115. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.
Mattie will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115-2277.
