Lawrence O. Sandahl, age 90, of Rockford, Illinois went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Lorry was born on May 2, 1933 in Rockford, Illinois, to Hillevi and Enoch Sandahl. He graduated from Rockford East High School in 1951. Lorry was drafted into the United States Army immediately following graduation. He was active combat in the 101st Airborne Division and served in the Korean Conflict. Upon his return home, he was employed at Rockford Drop Forge as a draftsman. In 1955, he and his brother Kenneth founded Sandahl Farm Service Inc., and Sandahl Bros Insurance Agency, before selling the business and retiring in 1990. While working, he obtained his private pilot license and advanced instrumentations. He loved flying his Cessna 172 and his Beachcraft.
He found great joy in traveling the United States in his motorhome, and eventually touring with the Christian Motorcycle Association on his Harley. Lorry enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years. During retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events, and working on his farm.
He is survived by his first wife, Janet LaTour; children, Steven (Monica) Sandahl, Greg (Brenda) Sandahl, and Lynn Miller; grandchildren, Joseph Sandahl, Eric Sandahl, Kristin (Kevin) Rauch, Jennifer Miller, Leandra Sandahl, Sarah (Dr. Kevin) Allibone, Andrew Sandahl, Christopher Miller; five great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Charm) Sandahl; sister-in-law, Jan Beckstrand; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Lorry was preceded in death by his former wives, Ava Lou and Eleanora; siblings, Leonard Sandahl and Mavis (Richard) Lawson; many extended family members.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, and a special thanks to his favorite CNA, Faye "Mom". In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in Lorry's honor.
