Karen L. Stone, 70, of Rockford, passed away on July 27, 2011 in her home surrounded by her family. Born July 19, 1941 in Rockford, the daughter of John W. and Ruth E. (Lee) Knodle. She attended Lincoln JR High and East High School. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Married Donald G. Stone on March 23, 1962 in Freeport, IL. She raised 6 children, seeing them grow to be successful and happy. She served as manager at Don Carter Lanes for 25 years, Bowl Mor Lanes 10 years prior to and never missed a day of work. She saw three generations of some families learn to bowl. Karen was a member of Rockford Bowling Association Hall of Fame and was awarded Special Services Award from the Rockford Youth Bowling. She started The Chocolate Milk Bumper Bowling League for kids. She also started and ran The King of the Hill Tournament at Don Carter Lanes, as well as many other youth and scratch bowling tournaments. Survived by her children, Michael J. Stone, David C. (Denise) Stone, Kristin M. Geary, Linnea Rydeberg, Donald G. (Arlene) Stone Jr., and Carolyn Doerr; grandchildren, Rachel Stone, Evan Stone, Carley Stone, Mason Geary, Rocky Rydeberg Jr., Jennifer Rydeberg, Jessica Rydeberg, Donald Stone III, Erik Stone, Mikita Stone, Jill Beaton, John Doerr; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Susan Knodle and Mary Durick; and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd. officiated by Pastor Michael Thomas.
