Joy Dalton, 92, of Rockford, IL passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 21, 2023. She was born in Broughton, IL on August 17, 1930 to William and Lucille (Coontz) Parsons. Her mother passed away when she was only 15 months old so she was raised by her dad and grandmother, Brahilda Gayle. Joy graduated from Norris City Township High School in 1948. She married the love of her life, Gutherie "Gus" Dalton on June 13, 1948 and together they raised a wonderful son. She worked at Amerock for 32 years and was a long time member of Lincoln Wood Baptist Church. Joy was a devoted Christian and enjoyed attending Church every Sunday. She lost her husband in 1994 after being his caregiver for over 8 years. Joy enjoyed traveling, playing BINGO, getting together with her girlfriends from Amerock, but most importantly she loved being a Mom and a Grandma. Family was extremely important to her and she was the true definition of what a Grandma should be. Joy will forever be missed by her family and many friends.
Joy is survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna (Randy) Huckabee; her step daughter, Nancy (Rick) Jenkins; her granddaughters, Amanda (Keith) Melvin, Kelly (Ryan) Fagerstrom, and Krystal Dalton; her grandson, Robert (Erin) Morris; and her great grandchildren, Sydney, Dalton, Sophia, and Gabe Melvin, Rylee Fagerstrom, and Max Morris. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Lucille Parsons; her grandmother, Brahilda Gayle; her husband of 46 years, Gus Dalton; her son, Greg Dalton; and her furry companion, Charlie.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to her wonderful neighbors, especially, Karen Talley, for always checking in on Joy and to Pastor Wendell Maynard for coming to pray over Joy and being a great comfort to the family during this difficult time.
Funeral Service for Joy will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park, IL with Pastor Wendell Maynard officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the start of service. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, IL.
