Helen Marie Rickard, 86, of Rockford, died on May 5, 2011 in Swedish American Hospital. Born March 14, 1925 in Barnett, MO the daughter of Ivor and Susan “Pearl” (Tipton) Bradshaw. She was valedictorian at Warrensburg High School. After graduating, she studied Spanish in Saltillo, Mexico. Helen received a B.A. in English from Central Missouri State University and a Masters in English from Rockford College. Married Floyd Rickard in Warrensburg, MO on September 6, 1947. She was active with Creekwood Baptist Church. Hosted many American Field Service Students and was on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity. She had a passion for traveling, reading, gardening and music. She and her husband were members of the Cotillion and Ostende Dance Club. Owned the retail store, The Olive Tree, for 15 years. Enjoyed her many friendships at FIC (Foundation for International Cooperation), she immensely enjoyed her cottage and book club at Wesley Willows.
Survivors include her brother, Dr. W.D. Bradshaw (Dottie); daughters, Anne (Alberto) Scarabelli of Roscoe and Kathryn Rickard and Steve Tinkler of Crystal Lake; grandchildren Stephen Scarabelli, Simona (Richard) Hankins, Melissa Tinkler and Daniel Tinkler; great-grandchildren, Aurelio and Madeline; nieces, Deborah and Jane and several cousins. Predeceased by her parents; husband of 60 years, Floyd Rickard; son, Gene Paul Rickard and brother, Eugene Bradshaw. Memorial service at 12 noon on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Creekwood Baptist Church, 7281 Spring Creek Road, Rockford, with visitation from 10am to time of service. Cremation rites have been accorded.
