Gene M. Harne

Gene M. Harne, 74, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, August 10, 2021 at Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside. He was born December 9, 1946 in Rockford, IL, the son of Roger and Icel (Hellyer) Harne. Gene proudly served in the United States Army for 2 years, where he was stationed in Vietnam. He married his sweetheart, Ramona Barclay on September 29, 1973 in Austin, MN. Gene was employed by the Chrysler Corporation in Belvidere for 30 years, and was a member of the UAW. He was a member of the American Legion. Gene enjoyed working on cars and going to car shows. He liked camping and fishing with his friends. Most of all, Gene was a family man who loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gene is loved and missed by his wife of 47 years, Ramona; children, Gregory (Angela) Harne, Carrie (Michael) Hodge, Roy (Samantha) Harne and Paula (Eric) Zillhart; grandchildren, Kassondra (Lee) Martinez, Gregory Harne, Tristan (Hannah) Beyer, Skylar Harne, Emily Harne, Derek Turvold, Zoe Zillhart and Payton Zillhart; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Antczak, Elijah Antczak, Zaiden Martinez, Maraya Martinez and Finley Beyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and his mother-in-law and father-in-law.

A visitation will be held from 10-12 p.m., Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. Burial will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
