Charles L. Peterson, 84, of Rockford, passed away Friday June 2, 2017. He was born December 23, 1932 in Kewanee Public Hospital to LaVern and Alie Peterson. He graduated from AlWood High School in Woodhull, IL in 1950. He worked at Coyne Electric in Chicago. He served his country in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Japan. He graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1956. He married Nancy Stewart on October 12, 1957 in Milwaukee, WI.
He was employed by Barber Colman for 40 years, retiring in 1997. He was a Scout Master for Troop 394 from 1972 to 1975. He was a member of VFW Post 8053 in Sun Lakes, AZ and American Legion Post 1207 in Rockford. Longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir. Enjoyed spending three and a half months in Arizona each year. He spent his leisure time golfing during his retirement and worked on landscaping at Trinity Church for many years. Enjoyed traveling in retirement visiting foreign countries and taking a number of cruises.
Survived by Nancy his wife of 59 years; sons, Mark (Connie), Keith (Carla) and Gary (Mary); grandchildren, Kyle (Elizabeth), Morgan (Josh), Elizabeth and Ethan; sisters, LaVona Farney, Kay Becker; sister-in-law, Carol Stewart; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; sister, Amy Olson; brothers-in-law, Paul Olson, Dick Farney, Marvin Becker.
Funeral Service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 200 N. 1st St, Rockford. Pastor Jay Quinn will be officiating. Visitation at 10 a.m. until time of service. Private Burial.
