Wanda Fay Busby Prokop was the fourth child and second daughter of 11 children born to Robert Burton Busby and Ida Jane “Janie” Bryant. Wanda was born on December 11, 1934, at home in Eustace, Henderson Co., TX.
Wanda Fay Busby Prokop of Kemp, Texas, Entered into Eternal Rest on August 10,2023 in Athens TX, at the age of 88.
While growing up, Wanda had to help in the cotton fields and help with the vegetable crops. At the same time, she had to watch the younger brothers and sisters. At an early age, Wanda learned to sew and make all her clothes until she graduated high school.
Wanda attended the Eustace Schools through the 10th grade. She attended Mabank High School her 11th and 12th grade years and graduated in 1952 as Salutatorian. Wanda was a cheerleader, football sweetheart nominee, and first string forward on the basketball teams at both Eustace and Mabank High Schools.
Upon graduation from high school, Wanda worked in Dallas as a secretary for an insurance company and then for a rail transportation company. Wanda attended Rutherford Metropolitan School of Business and took classes at SMU in the evenings.
In 1960 Wanda moved to California and continued her education while working full-time for the Pacific Lighting Corporation. She worked for the same group of affiliated companies for 30 years
while at the same time earning her Bachelor of Science in Management degree from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, graduating suma cum laude in 1982. She would eventually become Vice President of Pacific Lighting Leasing Company, a Subsidiary of Pacific Lighting Corporation.
Wanda married the love of her life, William “Bill” Prokop, a native of Canada, in 1986 in Hawaii. After retiring, Wanda and Bill moved to Texas and lived in Corsicana for a number of years and then made their home in Kemp, TX.
Wanda enjoyed reading, traveling, sports events, contract bridge, and getting together with family and friends. She and Bill would get yearly tickets to see the Dallas Mavericks and the Texas Rangers.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Prokop, her mother and father Robert and Janie (Bryant) Busby, her brothers Aubrey, Rdell, Pete, Judge, and Rickey, and her sisters-in-law Colene Busby and Rena Busby. Wanda is survived by her brothers, Bob and Don Busby, her sisters, Vona Nason, Linda Oliver, and Louise Gibbs, and her sisters-in-law Janie Busby, Bettie Busby, Linda Busby, and Charlotte Cravey, her brother-in-law Horace Oliver, and many nieces and nephews.
Wanda requested that she be cremated and her ashes interred beside her husband at Oaklawn Cemetery of Mabank, Texas. Private services will be scheduled for a later date.
