Ronnie, the most loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather is survived by his wife of 52 years Kathy, son Stewart and grandson Brody, son Chance and his wife Brandi, and granddaughter Chloe. Ronnie was also survived by his brother Paul Sutton and wife Janice, children Mindy and Jeff of Mabank, Texas.
In 1962 while attending Mary Carroll High School, the Mary Carroll High School Baseball team won the first district championship in Carroll High School history. While the Tigers weren’t even in the top five preseason district team picks that year, through a lot of luck, hard work, and perseverance they earned a place in Carroll’s first ever state championship tournament. Ronnie played 3rd base and was a leading hitter for the Tigers baseball teams that won Region (‘62) and Bi-District (‘63) championships. He was a starting guard and a leading scorer on the ‘62-’63 Tigers basketball teams and in the North Zone (‘63). He was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 2018.
He played scholarship baseball at Blinn Jr. College for two years, leading them to two College World Series tournaments and was an All American. He received multiple pro baseball offers and played his junior year for Trinity University and had a season-ending knee injury in his first game.
After college, Ronnie coached basketball and baseball at Freer, Texas High School. Soon thereafter, Ronnie moved to Mabank to be closer to his grandparents and started a job at Connie Hyde’s Furniture Store. During a refrigerator delivery, he met the love of his life Kathy. Ronnie and Kathy dated for two years before marrying in 1970 and started their family. Ronnie raised cattle for 10 years and had a 42 year successful career as a real estate appraiser. After retiring, Ronnie spent his time at many different sporting events watching his grandson play ball. When not watching sports, you could find him in a fishing hole or hunting with his best friend David or his sons and grandson.
Ronnie attended the First Baptist Church of Eustace for over 54 years serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Ronnie was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, who loved him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever engrained in all he knew.
The visitation will take place from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on March 27 at First Baptist Church in Eustace. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 28th at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Eustace followed by the graveside at Moorehead-Melton Cemetery.
