Kenneth Eugene Barr

Ken Barr fancied himself a modern-day cowboy. After all, he was from a ghost town. He was born in Phillips, Texas on December 21, 1948. His dad, William Edgar Barr, was a career oil man and his mother, Phyllis Jean Reno Barr, was an educator. He was the oldest of four children. His family moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico where he met the girl who would later become his wife, Nanci. They were married for 55 years (48 of which were great) and had two children, Renée and Kimberly. Their marriage took them from Norman, Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!), back to San Juan, and ultimately to Dallas (Go Cowboys!) where they spent the majority of their married life. Ken was a CPA originally with Arthur Anderson, a company that like his hometown, is now defunct. Ken ended his working career at Highgate Holdings, where he served as Chief Accounting Officer and multi-year winner of the annual Halloween costume contest. Ken retired to his lake house in Mabank, where he discovered he was a lousy fisherman. A lifelong hunter, Ken continued to enjoy hunting after retirement, in recent years becoming more challenging with his Parkinson's and his poor eyesight. His life had become, in his words, a confluence of boondoggles. Ken faced all his challenges with a keen sense of humor. His strong faith and his unfailing relationship with God served him well, especially at the end of his life as Parkinson’s disease robbed him of the ability to function in everyday life.

He is survived by his wife, Nanci, two children, Renée and her son, Houston, and Kimberly, her husband Jason, and their daughter, Faeryn. Left to celebrate his life are his brother John and sister Tricia, plus countless other family members.

Ken is in Heaven now, talking politics and economics with God. He will undoubtedly find an OU fan (Boomer Sooner!) in Heaven to talk football and educate all with his knowledge of old cars. His supply of Hot Tamales and Blue Bell ice cream is now endless. He is two-stepping through eternity with his engaging smile and twinkling blue eyes. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Richardson on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
