Essie Mae Young, age 88, of Kemp, Texas passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Essie was born July 9, 1933 in Tool, Texas to parents, Charles Hooper and Myrtle Sutton. Christian by faith, she attended Lakeview Assembly of God in Seven Points, for several years. Essie enjoyed cooking meals for her monthly gathering with her fellow congregation. She loved yard work and riding her lawn mower on warm and sunny days.
Essie is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Hooper and Myrtle Sutton; husband, Lawrence Cecil Young; brothers, Jack Hooper, George Hooper, Lloyd Hooper, and Floyd David Hooper; sisters, Minnie Pearl Stewart and Mary Coker.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Crist of Athens, TX., Loretta McCleary and husband Charles of Cross Roads, TX., Judy Smith of Scurry, TX., granddaughters, Amy Stelter and Linda Stanfield; grandsons, Robert Smith, Jeff Smith, Aaron Smith, and Cody McCleary; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, 2 special nephews, Phil and Charles Spivey; along with other numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home, located at 601 S. 3rd St. Mabank, TX, 75147. A Celebration of Life Service will be held January 6, 2022 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home, followed by a Graveside service at King Cemetery in Aley, TX.
