Aubrey “Red” Mitchell passed peacefully in his sleep on March 19, 2021. He was kind, gentle and lighthearted. As a child, he loved to play sports and have fun with friends. As a young man, he was in the Reserves and he retired from the Army & Air Force Exchange Service after 29 years, in 2012. He loved his job in the printing department and was well-liked by his colleagues. As he was starting his own family, he was very active with the Church of Christ.
Aubrey loved his son Matt dearly and you would often see them together. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life and was always happy to visit friends and family and exchange stories. He would usually greet you with a warm, welcoming hug and one of his most memorable traits was his understated, yet unique laugh. He made friends everywhere he went and was loved by many, including his mother, Gurley Mitchell, who is still living at 107 years old.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.T. Mitchell. He is survived by his mother, Gurley Mitchell, his son, Matt Mitchell, his brother, Billy Mitchell, former sister-in-law Cleta Close, nephews Gary and Terry Mitchell, and nieces Heather Mitchell, Autumn Mitchell, and Makayla Mitchell.
