Shirley was born on September 12, 1935, in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada. She was the daughter of Meredith and Emma Jevne and was proud that the Jevne family were immigrants from Norway. Shirley came to the United States at age 5 with her mother, father, and sister. She graduated from Franklin High School in Seattle, Washington and was an active participant in the drama department for four years, a camp counselor and a grand officer of the International Order of the Rainbow girls.
Shirley was united in marriage to Jorge Landa on January 29, 1953, and they spent 69 years together. Shirley is survived by her sister [Darlene Jevne] and her five children [Michael Landa, Terry Landa, Jorge Landa, Elena Landa and Susan Rogers, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an amazing and loving sister, mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and businesswoman.
Shirley was always ahead of her time as a strong woman and inspired so many other people through a life of hard work and volunteerism. As an accomplished woman, Shirley became one of the top dog breeders in Washington state of her beloved Bouvier des Flandres, and for over 40 years was the founder, owner and operator of Delanda Dog Inn, a large family-owned boarding kennel. Shirley was the author of the “Dog News” Sunday column published weekly in the Seattle Times, and a board member for the humane society for many years. Shirley was also an author, public speaker and advocate for families with the Cult Awareness Network. But most of all, Shirley will be remembered for her loving and forgiving heart, her stoic nature, and her selfless commitment to her family.
“She also was the very best pie maker ever!!!!”
There are many stories to tell. Let it be known that we feel incredibly lucky to have had her in our lives, and to have been there when she drifted out of ours. We were blessed. Shirley will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched.
We love you mom, grandma, great grandma, and sister. Rest in peace.
