The Lord called our beloved Father & Grandpa home on Wednesday Aug 22, 2012.
On Christmas day 1922, a tiny 2lb baby boy was born early to Amanda Haverman after she had fallen down the stairs on Christmas Eve. She named him Lloyd Gustov Haverman. His Grandmother, Albertina Sophia Monsen saw he was fighting to stay alive, but the Doctors had given up on his little life. Albertina took him covered him in olive oil, wrapped him in cotton, and kept him in the warmth of the oven of their wood cookstove. Every time he stopped breathing she would breath the gift of life into his little mouth and nose, staying awake however long it took to keep her little grandson alive. Lloyd & his Grandmother Albertina had a very special bond all her life. Something was instilled in Lloyd to continue the fight to live & live well all his life, finding ways to help his family and others be heathier, feeling better and perhaps finding the path to live longer. He was a health food guru before it was popular!
One of his First memories was on a Christmas morning….. under the tree there was a new toy hammer for him and a doll for his sister Bernice. He chuckled remembering that he wanted to play with the doll and Bernice wanted to play with the hammer! In the day of outhouses with a Sears and Roebuck Catalog , Lloyd would laugh when he told the story of the trouble he and cousin Leona got into after unrolling the first real roll of toilet paper all over the blackberry bushes. Grandma made them roll it all back up & put it back in the outhouse.
Lloyd loved his family with all his heart. He loved having everyone together. His children, gardening and animals were some of his favorite joys in life.He was a truck driver for many years but always looked forward to coming home to be with his family.
He was facinated with time travel, aliens and UFO's. Anytime he found an interesting documetary or an article he always wanted to share it with everyone. He would spend countless hours making copies of tapes he had recorded and copy articles that interested him to give to others. He was an avid amateur ham radio operator. His call sign was WA7HNY. That call sign was an answer to a prayer from a young couple adrift in the Pacific Ocean calling an SOS signal that Lloyd had faintly heard & responded to, calling the Coast Guard to rescue them.
Our hero, our Dad & Grandpa...always always helping others.
