Edward (Ed) Thompson, age 85 of Shoreline Washington, passed away on September 18th, 2019. Ed was born to Kenneth Edward Drahiem and Jean Isobel Tones of Des Moines Iowa ON February 23, 1934. He was later adopted by Arthur E. Thompson.
Ed moved to the great Northwest at an early age with his parents and sister.
Edward attended North Kitsap High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1951 at the age of 17. Ed proudly served his country during the Korean War for 8 years, 1951 to 1959 and achieved the rank of Corporal. Ed was honorably discharged from the USMC on September 3, 1959.
Ed returned to the Great Northwest where he met and married Clara- here, they had 3 children. Ed then moved to Lemon Grove CA, where they raised their children until her death in 1982. Ed took a position with the Civil Service as a rigger, where he worked throughout the west coast, which included the Edwards Air Force Base.
The Great Northwest called Ed back in the 1980’s with his new wife Jan Fine. Her family included three grown daughters. He continued his career as a rigger at the naval Submarine Base Bangor, up until his retirement in May of 1992. Ed lost his wife, Jan, in the year 1995.
In 1996 Ed was reacquainted with Marlene Harris, a former classmate at his high school North Kitsap High. After several months he asked Marlene to marry him, and on May 3rd 1997 they married, and were happily married at that, for 22 years until the time of his passing.
Ed enjoyed spending time with his wife, his family, and his church family. He was an avid reader, historian, story teller, and faithful follower of the Notre Dame Football team. Ed enjoyed camping, woodworking, and spending quality time tinkering in his workshop.
Edward was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife Marlene, sister Delores, and his children: Debbie Demonic, Sandra Smith, and Michael Thompson. His stepdaughters Sandra Harris and Sally Harris. Son-in-laws Daniel Smith and John Demonic. His grandchildren: Kenneth Ward, Justin Smith, Jessica Smith, and Sarah Warren. And lastly, His Great Grandchildren: Kenneth Ward, Preslee Ward, Jacoby Meyers, and Ezra Warren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Open Door Baptist Church, 17014 44th Ave W, Lynnwood, WA 98037 on Saturday, October 12 at 12 PM.
