Born in Lynn on August 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Dr. William A. and Elinor M. (Sullivan) Galvin, Sr. Bill graduated from Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1949.
Serving in the U. S. Army Reserve for ten years, he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Before retiring, he worked many years at the G.E. Riverworks and in Everett. He was a member of I.U.E. Local 201, AFL-CIO.
Bill was a former communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Lynn. He was an avid photographer, grew orchids, loved anything to do with airplanes and air shows and he especially loved dogs. He enjoyed windsurfing on Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield.
He leaves two sisters, June Robinson of Lynnfield, and Elizabeth Polhemus of Plainville, Illinois, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He also leaves his sister-in-law Marie Galvin of Swampscott. He was the brother of the late Elinor Galvin, Donald Galvin, Dr. Dorothy Jodice, and brother-in-law of the late John Robinson, Richard Polhemus, and Gaetano “Guy” Jodice.
His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 AM from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield at 10 AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 PM.
