Kenneth “Opie” Sharpe, age 79 a resident of Peabody since 2001 and a former Lynn resident for most of his life, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 29, 1937 in Lynn, the son of the late, Frederick J. and Dorothy (Rines) Sharpe. He was raised and educated in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1957.
He had worked for several years at NECCO Candy in Boston, for many years. He also worked for over 20 years in shipping & receiving for Maynard Plastics in Salem. Ken had also worked for Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington and for the Winchester Auburn Mills in Woburn, where he retired as the head shipper.
Ken enjoyed going fishing. He also loved spending his time making models. He especially enjoyed making models of ships and cars. His favorites were models of “Woodies”. He liked watching and collecting old movies very much. Ken also enjoyed listening to both bagpipe and classical music.
He is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Priscilla (Bowden) Sharpe of Peabody. His son, Glenn P. Sharpe and his wife, Kathleen of Peabody. His daughter, Kelly E. Walsh and her husband, Greg of Billerica. His brother, Roger Sharpe and his wife, Marie of Lynn. His Grandchildren; Molly, Dylan and Zander Walsh. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his brothers; Frederick Sharpe, Jr. and Robert Sharpe, and his beloved grandson, Darren Walsh.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services for Mr. Sharpe on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 7:15 PM at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, MA 01904. Visiting hours will precede the service from 5 – 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn on Friday, November 18, 2016.
