PEABODY – Edmund “Joe” Joseph Pickard, Jr., 90, of Peabody, longtime Swampscott Firefighter, passed away, Saturday, March 2nd at Ashland Farm in North Andover. Joe was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (Genova) Pickard with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He was born in Lynn, the son of the late Edmund Pickard, Sr. and Florence (Hanscom) Pickard. He was a longtime resident of Peabody and previously resided in Swampscott and Lynn.
Joe graduated from Swampscott High School Class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a Swampscott firefighter for 30 years until his retirement in 1984. Joe was truly devoted to his wife and family. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife and family and especially to the family cottage in Tuftonboro, NH.
Joe was the loving father of Michael J. Pickard of Atlanta, GA, Scott F. Pickard and his partner, Kristine Golden of Dracut and Paul E. Pickard and his wife, Maureen of Peabody; the cherished grandfather of Kaitlyn Pickard and her partner, Bernie Raymer, Lindsey Silva and her husband, Robson, Ryan, Jenna, Derek and Sam Pickard and Holly Reid; the adoring great-grandfather of Isabella Silva; the dear brother of Mary Landry of Swampscott and the late Audrey Clark and the uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Wednesday, March 6th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Thursday, March 7th, at 10:00 a.m. followed at 11:00 a.m. by a Funeral Mass at Holy Family Church, Lynn. Burial will follow in Swampscott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association via www.lbda.org.
