Obituary
On December 19, 2017, Donald King of Duxbury entered into eternal peace. He was born in Plantsville, Connecticut on March 1, 1921 to George S. and Lois King. He was predeceased by three brothers; George King Jr., William King, Edmund King; and three sisters; Blanche Wade, Elizabeth McHugh and Barbara Lee. He leaves behind his loving wife, Lillian, four children: Kathy Egmont, Diane Dick (Wayne), Robert King (Carol) and Timothy King (Beverly), one brother Arthur King of California, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was a WW2 Army veteran, having served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He was wounded on D-Day and at the Battle of the Bulge and received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He met his wife, Lillian, at Lovell Hospital/Fort Devens after he sustained injuries in the Battle of the Bulge. They were married the same year and recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Our family has been blessed to witness and enjoy these many years of their steadfast love for each other, their family and their Lord.
Donald was an electrical engineer graduating from both Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute. He last worked at Baker Brothers in Canton, MA. He was a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Duxbury, where he served as a deacon, usher and choir member. He worked very hard to raise money for high school scholarships as an active member of the Duxbury Kiwanis and Boosters Club. He also was a volunteer at the Jordan Hospital for many years in the Emergency Department. He loved camping, singing, gardening, golfing and enjoying time with his loved ones. His colorful personality, warm heart, positive spirit and abiding faith made him a person to love. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Duxbury MA at a date to be set in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Duxbury (DuxburyChurch.org) or the Merrimack Valley Hospice (homehealthfoundation.org).
