Born on February 3, 1935 in the Town of Yates, NY, he was the son of the late Louis B. and Frances (Young) Bentley.
Donald graduated from Lyndonville High School in 1953 and married his high school sweet heart, Dorothy Dack on November 20, 1954 and together they raised five children. He owned and operated the Donald Bentley Farm; he also worked for 30 years at H.H. Mink Co. of Rochester and for ten years for grounds and maintenance at Lyndonville Central School, where he served on the School Board for 9 years and was past President for three terms. He was a life- long member of the Lyndonville Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder, Trustee and Deacon. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau. Donald’s passion was farming, but enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy, five children, Cynthia (Terry) Williams of Kent, NY; Paula J. (Steven) Nesbitt of Waterport, NY; Timothy M. Bentley of Lyndonville, NY; J. Todd (Lisa) Bentley of Medina, NY; Kristen M. (John Longworth) Wickham of Medina; nine grandchildren; Jenna (Jeremy) Bauer; Steven (Tiffany) Nesbitt II; Nicholas (Jillian) Nesbitt; Scarlett (Captain Richard) Miles; Shane and Nicole Nesbitt; Lance Corporal: Bradley M. Wickham; Madison and Bryce Wickham; eight great-grandchildren; six siblings, David (Caroline) Bentley of Lyndonville; Norman (Virginia) Bentley of North Rose, NY; Curtis (Mary) Bentley of Medina; Elton Bentley of Kuna, Idaho; Blaine (Nancy) Wirth of Lyndonville; Penny Wirth Dunn of Boise, Idaho; a brother-in-law, David Dack and a sister-in-law, Robin (Marion) Bayne, all of Lyndonville; many nieces and nephews and his many friend’s in the Amish and Mennonite Community.
Donald is predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Wickham.
Relative and friends may call on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at the Bates & Tuttle Funeral Home, 112 N. Main St. Lyndonville, NY from 2-4 Pm and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, 11:00 AM at the Lyndonville Presbyterian Church, 107 N. Main St. Lyndonville, NY, with the Pastor, Rev. Catherine B. Benjamin officiating and burial will be in the Lynhaven Cemetery.
