Thomas Lewis Donald, 70, of Lynchburg, died, Thursday, November 29, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of Betty Harris Donald. Born November 28, 1942, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late James Wyatt Donald and the late Frances Burns Donald.
Tommy was a retired groundsman for the City of Lynchburg and a member of Jordan Baptist Church. He was also a former employee of the Lynchburg Foundry, where he served for 29 years. Tommy also served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
In addition to his wife, Tommy is survived by his children, Thomas L. Donald, Jr. of Roanoke, Timothy J. Donald and his wife Cindy of Lynchburg, Tracy W. Donald and his wife Shannon of Lynchburg, Tonya S. Donald of Lynchburg; his step-children, Angela Barricks of Lynchburg, Donald “Red” E. Barricks and his wife Janet of Concord, and James E. Barricks and his wife Angelia of Lynchburg; five siblings, James W. Donald, Jr. and his wife Jane of Madison Heights, Pat D. Lawhorne of Lynchburg, Edward “Butch” Donald of Lynchburg, Jacque Donald and his wife Barbara of Lynchburg and Ricky Donald and his wife Kathy of Lynchburg; and nineteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 1:00p.m.., Monday, December 3, 2012, at Jordan Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park, where the American Legion Post 16 will present Military Honors.
The family will receive friends, 3-5 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the needs of the family.
