Obituary of Roger Lee Tyree
Roger Lee Tyree, age 77, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Roger was born in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; James Douglas Hancock, and Edith Hazel Huffman Hancock, and by his brother; Carlton Padgett. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years; Gloria Tyree (Fitzgerald), son; Jeffrey Tyree (Nyree De Vera and her children) of Chesterfield, VA, daughter; Jennifer Tyree Castellano (Andrew) and their children; Morgan, Allison and Nicholas of Glen Allen, VA, son; Cody Childress (Jamie) and their children; Logan (Brooke) of Lynchburg, and Jayden and Arbor of Charlotte, NC, his brother; Ronald Dale Tyree of Lynchburg, VA, as well as many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Roger volunteered for the Navy so that he could go to Vietnam in 1965. He served in the Brown Water Navy patrolling the Mekong Delta until 1967. Later he served on the destroyer, the USS Dupont 941. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, as well as the Vietnam Service Medal (One Star). He was an avid golfer and a member of Ivy Hill in Forest. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #16 in Greenview, and a past member of the Moose Lodge and Elks in Bedford for years. He supported The Humane Society & loves his Casper Cat. He loved the beach, his pool and music was always playing throughout his house. He was a master electrician and a project manager, who worked at B & W, SECO, Sentry Equipment, and ECK Supply Co before relocating to Chattanooga, TN for 8 years working at Noland. He moved back to Lynchburg for retirement to be closer to his family. A visitation for Roger will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Rd, Lynchburg, Virginia 24502, followed by a memorial service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Roger would love it if guests attended in their brightest colors or Hawaiian shirts. Inurnment will be at Virginia Veteran's Cemetery in Amelia, VA at a later date.
