Richard Al Smith, 86, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2022 at his residence.
Born on April 29, 1936 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Roy C. Smith and Dollie C. Smith. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Clarence W. Smith.
He was employed for over 35 years at Central Virginia Community College prior to his retirement. He was an avid car collector in his younger years and was especially proud of his El Camino and Corvette. He was known for being a jokester and always had a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his companion and caregiver of 49 years, Pat Coleman; his sister Rachel G. Lindsey and her husband Hunter of Madison Heights; Tammy Rowland, whom he thought of as a daughter, and her husband Bobby of Forest; Brett Mann whom he considered a grandson; his niece April Bailey and her husband Bill of Amherst; two great nephews, William J. Bailey and his wife Susan of Roxboro, NC and Caleb L. Bailey and his wife Stephanie of Madison Heights and many friends.
