Richard Leroy Hawkins, Sr., 89, of Evington, passed away on Friday, April 08, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at Heritage Green Memory Care, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Eunice Campbell Hawkins for 67 years.
Born on January 9, 1927 in East Palaka, FL, he was the son of the late Henry Leonard and Grace Rupert Hawkins.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He served our country in the United States Army during WWII. Richard retired from Limitorque after 42 years of service and was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Most importantly, Richard enjoyed his family and will be missed by many family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice; daughter, Becky Sauls (Ray); son, Richard Hawkins, Jr.; grandchildren, Richard Hawkins, III (Rebecca) and Sarah Grigg (Shawn); and three great grandchildren, Leah and Matthew Hawkins and Mackenzy Grigg;
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the home of his daughter, Becky Sauls, 132 George St, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Carl Weiser officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
