Morris Owen Wright, Jr. 83, of Lynchburg, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Liberty Ridge Rehabilitation Center. He was the loving husband of Ida Leebrick Wright for 60 years. Born on July 20, 1932 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Morris Owen Wright, Sr. and Inez Bomer Wright.
Morris was a loving father, husband, brother, son and uncle. He served our country in the United States Navy and retired as a police officer with the City of Lynchburg Police Department. He attended navy school and the police academy. Morris was also a cattle farmer and enjoyed working with cows. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #715, the American Legion Post 16, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Morris was a member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Booker, and Linda Evans.
Morris is survived by his wife, Ida Wright; daughter, Kimberly Wheeler and husband, Kyle; sons, Morris O. Wright, III and wife, Melinda, and Michael Kelly Wright; four grandchildren, Stephanie Calohan, Brittany Calohan, Morris O. Wright, IV, and Lindsey Wright; sister-in-law, Betty King and husband, Jack; brother-in-law, Kenneth Evans; nieces, Kendra Meeks and husband, Vern, Kelly Mattox and husband, Greg, and Melinda Gregory and husband, Frank; nephew, Tommy Booker and wife, Cindy; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Richard Miller and staff, Lynchburg General Hospital and their caregivers, and Liberty Ridge Rehabilitation Center for their excellent care and support during Morris’s illness.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 10 am.
