Born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, November 22, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Samuel John Thomas and Dorothea Craig Thomas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Gerald Thomas, John Thomas, Harold Thomas and Danny Thomas; one sister, Joyce Montgomery and two grandchildren, Sean Carter and Sierra Joy Carter.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Darryll V. Wilcox; her daughter, Cheryl Carter of Lynchburg; her son, Darrin Wilcox and his wife Michelle of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Jake Carter, Nathan Carter, Krista Carter, Donovan Carter, Dylan Wilcox and Nicholas Wilcox; and four brothers, Bob Thomas, Earl Thomas, Basil Thomas and Michael Thomas.
Married to her childhood sweetheart Darryll, who joined the American Air Force, she enjoyed travelling the USA and Europe with her family before retiring in Sumter, S.C. then later moving to Lynchburg, VA. In her professional life as an LPN, she was most proud of both her time spent working in labor and delivery at Hahn AFB, Germany (where she was affectionately known as “The Colonel”) and later years spent helping others in Sumter, S.C. through the Drug/Alcohol Rehabilitation Commission.
Always a proud Canadian, Marnie will be laid to rest in Mispec, New Brunswick, Canada where she spent much of her youth. She loved the ocean and spending summers at her home just feet away from the beautiful Bay of Fundy and visiting with her extensive Canadian family.
Family was first and foremost to Marnie, and as one of the last keepers of our many stories and history, she was much loved and will be sadly missed by so very many.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s research hospital, www.stjude.org.
