Born May 28, 1917, in Lovett, PA, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Benjamin Gittins and Jennie Gregg Gittins. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Marshall; and brother-in-law, Robert Marshall Sr.
Mrs. Nimmo attended Thomas Road Baptist Church and Elon Baptist Church, in Pamplin. She was an officer in the Salvation Army, in New York State.
Survivors include two daughters, Alexis J. “Jean” Hughes and husband Lewis, of Girard, PA, and Margaret N. “Maggie” Carey and husband Walter, of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Jill Hughes, Cheryl Wright, and John Hughes; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Josie and Jennifer Hughes, Molly Ann, and Logan Wright; niece, Christina Comte; nephews, Hugh, Douglas, and Bob Marshall Jr., other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at Spring Hill Cemetery, by the Rev. Ed Vogt.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Sandusky Baptist Church, building fund, 915 Catalina Place, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
