James Wesley Brooks, 69, of Lynchburg went home to be with his Savior Monday, August 1, 2016, at his residence. He was the husband of 47 years to Vicki Torrence Brooks. Born April 24, 1947, in Lynchburg, he was the son of Robert Wesley Brooks of Lynchburg and the late Lucy Dunn Brooks.
James was a retired missionary for Allow the Children, serving in Burundi, Africa and CCCD in Jamaica, as well as, retiring from Babcock and Wilcox Company. He was also a member of Timberlake Baptist Church. James served on the Advisory Committee for the Burundi Hope Project.
In addition to his wife and father, James is survived by two children, Lynn Dorris and her husband Phil of Portsmouth and Bryan Brooks and his wife Niky of Evington; and seven grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Timberlake Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Brodie, Rev. Ray Lyons and Rev. Alan Mason officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
