Helen Harris Doss

Helen Harris Doss, 100, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at The Carrington. She was the widow of John Snead Doss. Born in Nelson Co., she was the daughter of the late Sterling Tate Harris and the late Sallie Morris Harris. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters and one granddaughter, Nancy Doss Redwood. Helen attended Whites United Methodist Church and was a licensed practical nurse for the Johnson-Willis Hospital in Richmond, retiring at the age of 78. She is survived by two children, S. Glenn Doss and his wife, Patricia, and Betty D. Banton, all of Rustburg; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Pastor Paul Gillespie. Interment will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, July 13, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Betty Banton, 18 Royal Ridge Cr., Rustburg, VA.
