Guy "Len" Leonard Hargis

A proud veteran, Len served in the U.S. Army Reserves, demonstrating his dedication to his country. Beyond his military service, he was a man of many talents and passions, known for his love of gardening, his artistic spirit, and his craftsmanship. Whether painting landscapes or building exquisite furniture, he poured his heart into every endeavor. He proudly called himself an “artist,” creating pieces like pie safes and a Chippendale mirror that reflected his dedication to his craft.

A graveside service will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park, located on Fort Avenue in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. The service will take place in the mausoleum, where family and friends will gather to honor his life.

Len was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Guy Whitfield Hargis and Eunice Mae Brizendine Hargis, his cherished wife of 56 years, Sally Glass Hargis, and his two sisters, Cynthia Faye Hargis and Candy Leanne Blake.

He is survived by his loving son, Anthony Neal Hargis; his devoted daughter, Shelley Marie Barnhart (John); and his treasured grandchildren, Hailey-Ann Essie Woodruff and Benjamin Howe Woodruff. Guy is also remembered fondly by many cousins, including Brenda Nuckles, Donna Dye, Larry and Gary Brizendine, Steve Morris, C.B. Melton, and Judie Davis.

The family is being assisted by Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Len’s legacy lives on in the beauty of the things he created and the love he shared with those around him.
