David Leslie Chase

David Leslie Chase, 64, of Lynchburg passed away while on a cruise with his wife.
Born in Newburyport, MA, April 2, 1953, he was the son of the late Lewis Furlong Chase and Frances Louise Champoux Chase. David was a retired Chief Petty Officer from the US Navy where he served as a Cryptologic Technician. He later retired from the US Postal Service after 17 years of service. David would select a needy family each year on his mail route to prepare a Christmas meal for as well as provide presents to the children. He was also a passionate student of military history. David was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife, Phoebe Chase of Lynchburg, one son, Richard D. Chase of Lynchburg; one daughter, Michelle Douglass and her husband Scott of Forest; one brother, Alan Chase of Cambridge, MA; one sister, Diane Chase of Lynchburg and three grandchildren, Riley Douglass, Taylor Douglass and Isabella Douglass.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday April 8, 2018 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, after which the family will receive friends until 6:30 p.m.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at a later date in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA.
