Clarence "Funky" Owen Wright

Clarence “Funky” Owen Wright, 71, of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Patricia Ann Sowell Wright. Born March 27, 1946, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Clarence Edward Wright and the late Blanche Ailene Wright Ashworth. Clarence was a retired clerk for Gould Battery Plants, where he served for nineteen years. He was a big fan of NASCAR, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends. In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by four brothers, Carroll W. Wright, Dennis M. Wright, Douglas “Bug” R. Wright and James “Greeky” Ashworth. In addition to his wife, Clarence is survived by four children, David Whitmore and his wife Teresa of Lynchburg, Corey Wright and his wife Melissa of Lynchburg, Scott Wright of Lynchburg and Crystal W. Boyd and her husband Josh of Evington; three brothers, Harvey “Biff” L. Wright and his wife Anita of Madison Heights, Ronald “Monkey” Wright of Lynchburg and Terry Ashworth and his wife Marilyn of Lynchburg; sisters-in- law, Rebecca Ashworth of Madison Heights, Minnie “Pizzle” Wright of Rustburg and Barbara Gail Wright of Lynchburg; and numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other family members and friends. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Fred Williams officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alan B.
