Christine Maddox Hammock, 93, of Lynchburg, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at The Summit Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Sammie Swanson Hammock, Sr.
Born on August 17, 1921 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Hollie and Mary Maddox.
Christine was a charter member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. While at TRBC, she sang in the choir, was the church mother, and enjoyed going on church visitations to the sick and elderly.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by 5 siblings.
She is survived by her children, Robert Lee Hammock and wife Jeanette, Calvin Lawson Hammock and wife Madeline, Sammie Swanson Hammock, Jr., Cheryl Hammock Horsley and husband Benjamin, and Michael Lynn Hammock; six grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sisters, Madeline Shelton and Francis “Cookie” Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff, doctors, and nurses of The Summit Nursing Home for their excellent care and support of Christine for the past 10 years.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Thomas Road Baptist Church in the Pate Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating.
