Charles Henry Carwile, 95, of Lynchburg passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Campbell County on March 4, 1922, to the late Charles Reese Carwile and the late Hilda Cardwell Carwile.
Henry was an avid gardener who took great pleasure in raising vegetables and watermelons, and then sharing his bounty with everyone he knew. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. He retired from Glamorgan Pipe after 36 years of dedicated service.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Hallmark (Alan) and Marie Carwile (Steve Ansley); three grandchildren, Sara Barker (Robert), Shelley Siebert (Jacob) and Lauren Ansley; three great grandchildren, Charlotte Siebert, Rosalie Siebert and Colin Barker; and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves to cherish his memory three loving caregivers, Donna Murphy and her granddaughter Lacey, who he loved as one of his own, Francia Valdez-Aleman and Vivian Williams.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Layne Carwile; two sisters, Nellie Carwile and Margaret Carwile Caldwell; and eight brothers, Lewis Carwile, Revely Carwile, Robert Carwile, James Carwile, Wesley Carwile, Bennett Carwile, Raymond Carwile and Aubrey Carwile.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Jim Galford officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery at 5662 Red House Rd., Rustburg, VA 24588. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
