Carlton Wayne Clark, Sr., 82, of Rustburg, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
He was born in Lynchburg to the late Howard and Lillie Clark. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley and Faye.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Bonnie; two sons, Carlton Wayne Clark, Jr. (Deborah) of Hampstead, NC and Barry Edward Clark (Sara) of Evington; three grandchildren, Blake Clark, Nathan Clark and Jared Clark; and his sister, Jean Jamison (Tom) of Forest.
Carlton was a charter member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church. He worked in numerous leadership roles, including teaching the Explorer Sunday School class and the Senior Adult Class, and participated in various committees.
He retired from New Holland Custom Woodwork as a Project Manager in New Holland, PA. During his retirement he spent many hours volunteering at the Hyland Heights Baptist Church Food Pantry ministry. He enjoyed doing custom woodworking for his family as well as spending many hours in his garden where he was able to share the fruits of his labors with his friends and neighbors. Carlton and Bonnie enjoyed their retirement years traveling to North Carolina to spend time with family as well as traveling across the United States. He spent many years volunteering as an Ambassador with Liberty University sporting events and attending many games with his son and grandson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pearson Cancer Center and Bedford Cancer Care for their wonderful care and compassion over the past seven months. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Carlton’s name to the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be conducted on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel officiated by Pastor Carl Weiser. Interment will immediately follow the service at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
