Memorial services will be at Lumberton United Methodist Church, 5th Street & 11th Avenue, Lumberton, MS, 39455 on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 am. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Ladner was born January 22, 1941 in McComb, MS to Charles N. and Eulalie Schneider Hughes. She was a member of J.J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church in McComb, MS during which time she was elected President of the Mississippi Presbyterian Youth Association. She graduated from McComb High School in 1959 and in 1960 was crowned “Miss Hospitality" of McComb. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi where she was the featured twirler in the Golden Eagle Marching Band, a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, and voted as a Southern Miss Beauty. A devoted P.E. teacher, coach, educator, and mentor, she held a graduate degree from Mississippi College. She taught school at Lumberton, West Marion, Forest Hill, Byram, Chastain Junior High School, and Peeples Junior High School, and retired from Jackson Public School District in 1991. Throughout her career, she was honored with many awards, to include Teacher of the Year. Barbara Jo was a member of Lumberton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School.
Survivors include her husband, John B. Ladner; two children, Vicki (Rusty) Rutland, Col. John Scott (Kathie) Ladner; six grandchildren, Michelle Ladner, Amanda Jo Ladner, Lane Rutland, John Rutland, John Michael Ladner, Joe Lee Rutland; one brother, Noel Hughes; two aunts, Emily Austin and Lillian Lamkin.
Her parents precede her in death.
Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
