Services for Robert Lee Jacks, 80, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. John Greene officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mr. Jacks was born December 28, 1933 in Zavalla, Texas. He passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in Lufkin, Texas.
Mr. Jacks graduated from French High School in Beaumont, Texas in 1952. Mr. Jacks served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He then moved to Lufkin in 1955, where he began working for Southland Paper Mill. He retired as a production manager on December 31, 1993. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, horseback riding, and growing roses. He enjoyed pool side barbeques and fish fries, spending time with his children and grandchildren at his cabin on the Neches River, and sitting on his front porch with his family. He was a member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church for the past 59 years. He was also a member of Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. & A.M.
Survivors include his wife, Oma Jean (Laird) Jacks of Lufkin; son, Robert Lee Jacks, Jr. and wife Deborah of Lufkin and their two children, Tara Stephenson of Lufkin and Justin Jacks of Bastrop; son, Dr. Randal Keith Jacks and wife Callie of New Braunfels and their two children, Jordan Jacks of Washington, D.C. and Ben Jacks of New Braunfels; daughter, Rebecca Jean (Jacks) Brock and husband Jason of Lufkin and her three children, Kayla Daniels, Jason Daniels of Lufkin, Emily Loving of Lufkin and Britney Loving of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Katey, Brandon, Joshua, Brayden, Jessica, Karlee, and Alyson; sister, Joyce Shuff of Lumberton; brothers, Kenneth Ray Jacks of Sulfur Springs and Charles “Bud” Jacks and wife Eva of Lufkin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jacks was preceded in death by his father, Louie B. Jacks; mother, Ollie Augusta Jacks; sister, Dorothy Riley; father and mother-in-law, Barney and Essie Laird; and sister-in-law, Audrey Hinson.
Pallbearers will be Justin Jacks, Jordan Jacks, Brandon Seago, Jason Brock, Jason Daniels, and David Scarborough.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Jacks’ memory may be made to Harmony Hill Baptist Church, 2708 S. Chestnut, Lufkin, TX 75901 or to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904.
Mr. Jacks’ family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care given by Dr. Kevin Dixon, Nacogdoches Medical Center, and Hospice in the Pines.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
