Services for Robert “Nubbin” Nye Byrd, 87, of Apple Springs, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 S. First Street, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Byrd was born November 9, 1930 in Cherokee County, Texas, the son of the late Bertha (Vann) and Robert Elmer Byrd. He passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 in a local nursing facility.
Mr. Byrd was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a hard-working, lifelong commercial construction owner and cattle rancher. He loved tending to his cows. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Mr. Byrd was employed for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 11 years.
Mr. Byrd proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 2 years. He was a member and Sunday School teacher at Clawson Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Mike Byrd of Central; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Terri Byrd of Central; grandchildren, Billy Byrd, Dillon and Samantha Byrd, Traci and Case Towslee, Travis Byrd and Jake Byrd; great-grandchildren, Presley, Payden, Ava and Michael; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Glenda Byrd; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Joel Sessions; and sister-in-law, Larita Cutchshaw.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by two wives, Vanita Byrd and Jimmie Byrd.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Childers and Danny Tullos.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Byrd’s memory may be made to the St. Jude Childrens’ Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
A gathering will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 S. First Street, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel,
