Patsy Evelyn Rios, of Lufkin, TX, passed away on July 22, 2024, just one day shy of her 80th birthday. Born in Little Rock, AR, on July 23, 1944, she was the daughter of Joseph and Violet Coffman Holloway. Patsy attended Old Main High School and later earned her GED. She worked at the Base Exchange at Little Rock Air Force Base and continued at Rhein Main Air Base in Germany. Patsy also devoted her time to volunteering at Little Rock Air Force Base Hospital. After relocating to Lufkin, she worked as a Certified Medication Aide at Parkwood Place and retired from Lufkin State School.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Everado "Ed" Rios; her daughter, Shawn Palmer of Palatka, FL; her son, Gordon Munnerlyn of Palm Harbor, FL; her brothers, Winston Holloway of Pine Bluff, AR, and Kenneth Holloway of Malvern, AR; her granddaughter, Brandi Palmer; and great-granddaughters, Journee and Annalyn Palmer, all of Interlachen, FL. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joseph Holloway; her sisters, Carolyn Fugitt and Maria Abner; and her son, Charles Munnerlyn, Jr.
A loving wife and a compassionate individual, Patsy had a wide range of interests including painting, flower arranging, scrapbooking, cross-stitching, and doing puzzles. She was known for her generosity and willingness to help others, often going out of her way to support those she cared about.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin, TX, on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Patsy will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 1:45 pm.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lenin and Dr. Pavin Pinnamanen; nurse Anna and CNA Laura; her niece Hannah Abner and neighbors MaryLou McMullen, and Kaci and Daniel Stringer.
