Services for Norma Talkington Poland, 89, of Lufkin, will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, May 26, 2016 in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 S. First Street, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel, with Jimmy Dunn officiating.
Mrs. Poland was born November 12, 1926 in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, the daughter of the late Ouida Katherine (Yeager) and David Conway Talkington. She passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 in a local nursing facility.
Mrs. Poland was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a life member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post #1836, 50-year member of the Eastern Star, Den Mother and chaperone for Cub Scouts for a few years, and member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed sporting events. The Braves and Rangers were her favorite baseball teams. She was very involved in her kids’ sports.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Dianne Poland; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Bryant McCollum; grandchildren, Josh Poland and wife Jen; Jenna Poland, Bryant McCollum Jr. and Kacey McCollum; and great-grandchildren, Kysen James McCollum, Heath David Poland, Colby Lee Poland, and Myles Reid Poland.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poland was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Poland; and grandmother, Annie Yeager.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Poland’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 304 N. Raguet, Suite C, Lufkin, TX 75901.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 S. First Street, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel.
