Funeral service for Nancy Hill, 52, of Carrollton, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Hill and Dr. Jeff Kolk officiating. Interment will follow at Old Union Cemetery.
Nancy was born August 8, 1970, in Mindanao of the Philippines, daughter to the late Calayon D. Matondo and Victorina D. Matondo. She passed at Carrollton Regional Medical Center, in Carrollton, Texas, on April 25, 2023, at age of 52.
Nancy graduated from Notre Dame of Marbel University and subsequently worked while working on her Masters degree but discovered her passion for teaching where over her career taught at many levels of the college level in the Philippines for more than a decade, then after marriage to her husband Kevin in Carrollton, Texas, became a favorite substitute teacher at various high schools of the Carrollton ISD, most commonly at Newman Smith High School where her professionalism caused her to be one of the most sought after substitute teachers. Her passion for teaching was demonstrated inside and outside the classroom. Nancy also loved giving and supporting her family and community in the Philippines, helping those least able to help themselves by providing funds for gifts of rice for food and renovation of houses that her brother Rod, a craftsman, would perform. She regularly sent boxes (called Balakbayan boxes in the Philippines) of gifts and clothes during the Holiday season, bringing joy to her community in the Philippines.
Nancy grew up in the Philippines with two brothers, one sister and step brothers and sisters. When she was two years old her mother passed away during child birth and so was raised by her father, a Godly father who instilled into her a strong faith in Christ and was the world to her until he passed away in 2002.
In 2007, Nancy met Kevin online and found much in common, both strong believers in Christ. After Kevin’s visits to the Philippines, Kevin proposed and Nancy accepted and they were married in the Philippines. They then flew back to Texas as man and wife. They then were married in Texas to make it official in Texas. Nancy soon won over the hearts and respect, both professionally and personally, of all who knew her by her intelligence, integrity and genuine nature. Nancy was a light to all who knew her and will be deeply missed by all of those who knew her.
Survivors include husband of 15 years, Kevin Hill of Carrollton, Texas; brothers Rogelio (Roger) D. Matondo and Rodolfo (Rod) D. Matando; several step-brothers and sisters; father-in-law, Larry Hill of Lufkin, Texas; and she will also be dearly missed by several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by parents; sister, Ruthy (Bing Bing) D. Matondo; and mother-in-law, Nell Hill.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon at the funeral home.
