Mamie Sue Donnell Williams was born on June 22, 1920 in the Odell Community of Huntington, Texas. She passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012.
She was the fifth of eight children born to Fleetie Elizabeth (Robinson) and George Washington Donnell. Mamie Sue married Ben A. Williams, who she often referred to, using one of her favorite sayings, "the best of the best" on July 24, 1938. They were happily married for 60 years until Ben's death parted them on April 27, 1998.
Right up to Mamie Sue's death on Thursday, her greatest joy was talking to and spending time with her family and friends. Whether she was being called Momma, Mother, Grandma, O-ma, Paw-Paw Girl, GiGi, Sister, or Aunt Mamie Sue, she answered the call.
Having raised not only her own 5 children but having a big hand in raising many, many others, Mamie Sue enjoyed cuddling, rocking, and singing to her babies. "When the Saints Come Marching In", "The Old Cotton Fields Back Home" and "Bayou Baby" comforted many a fussy baby in Mamie Sue's rocking chair. She just adored the little children and they adored her. If you were good, she would give you an "A+ in her book."
Mamie Sue had her own politics. She didn't care what anyone did until they came under her roof, and then it was "her rules."
She is survived by her son, Phillip Williams and wife Laris of Huntington; daughters, Wanda Williams and Marilyn Choate and husband John of Huntington; grandchildren, Deano Dean and wife Tari, Danny Elliott and wife Jennie, Tammy Eaton and husband Doug, Jennifer McKnight and husband Kevin, Shari Eagles, Tracey Powell and husband Dan, Debbie Thauker and husband Navi, Ben Williams and wife Tonya, Tiffany Court-Gordon, Matt Court and wife Farrah, Noah Edger, Richard Bynum and Dianna, Mark Bynum and wife Patty, Glenda Jefferson and Kathy Rodrigues; 31 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren, sisters, Nancy Ellen Gibbs of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Bobbie McGraw of Mansfield, Louisiana and Thelma Donnell of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
