Mable Brittain Welch, 100, of Huntington, was born March 15, 1912 in Timpson, Texas, the daughter of the late Hattie (Sapp) and Winfield Scott Brittain. She passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 in a Huntington nursing facility.
Mrs. Welch was a homemaker and devoted wife. She retired from LaMaurice's Boutique in Huntington at the age of 85. She was member of Huntington's First Baptist Church and Lydia Sunday School Class. She loved to read, and was a member of the Huntington Garden Club, a DETCOG RSVP volunteer and lifetime charter member of the Huntington Order of Eastern Star No. 938.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Helen Brittain of Timpson; nieces, Carolyn Robinson and Everitte Havard, both of Huntington; nephew and his wife, Alex and Gretchen Bealer of San Antonio; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Welch was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Welch; beloved son, Walter Wayne Welch; special niece, Henrietta White; and her siblings.
Mrs. Welch's family wishes to thank the many loving friends and caregivers at Huntington Health Care and Heart to Heart Hospice for the loving care given to her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Welch's memory may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, 209 Christie Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
Pallbearers will be Len Havard, Michael Havard, Brian Havard, Casey Havard, Billy White, and Randy White.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Bealer, Gretchen Bealer, and her nieces and nephews. Services for Mrs. Welch will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Daryl Smith and Bro. Gentry Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in the Jonesville Cemetery in Huntington.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday afternoon at Gipson Funeral Home.
