Lula Faye "Nanny" James

Lula owned and operated “Shirley’s Fish Market” for more than 35 years. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for her famous homemade buttermilk biscuits. She expressed her love for family and friends with warm home cooked meals. Everyone knows that you never left Nanny’s house hungry. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She also had a love for music, teaching our Dad to play a guitar in her younger days.

Lula is survived by her children, Johnny and Molly James, Elton and Marla James, Barbara and the late Ronnie Rowell, Shirley and Ed Mirabello, Sheila and Jim Adams and Carolyn Kolb; grandchildren, Shane and Melanie Kolb, Keith and Kara James, Greg and Ginger Rowell, Kevin and Amy Crawford, Jennifer and James Briggs, Robin Brashear and fiancé Donald Davidson, Kimberly and Kalon Allen, Ricky and Shelley Rowell, Robert Reynolds, Cathy Reynolds Jacobs, Amanda McGee and Ryan Mirabello; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Edward Rice; brothers, Delbert Renfro, A. J. Renfro Jr., Byford and Melba Renfro, and Merrell and Kitty Renfro; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Christine and Ben James; adopted daughters, Sharon Carroll, Pam Reece, Darlene Favor and Tammy Rodriguez; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to her parents, Lula was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harl Leon James; sisters, Jessie Whitehead, Effie Pixley, Lilly Emerson, Mildred Stanbery; son-in-law, Ronnie Rowell; and grandson-in-law, Michael Knight.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Rowell, Greg Rowell, Kalon Allen, Kevin Crawford, Shane Kolb and Keith James.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Crawford, Ed Mirabello, Jim Adams, Roger Martin and James Briggs.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Dr. Carlton Lewis, Courtney Hanna Goodman, P.A., Dr. Munir Ahmad, Lopers Pharmacy and Hospice in the Pines and her beautician, Melanie Brashear.

Services for Lula will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Nathan Pannell officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
