Joyce Fay Ashton, age 77, of Lufkin, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024. She was born on July 5, 1947, to Corine (Davidson) and Ed Bounds in Lufkin, Texas. Joyce was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose kindness, generosity, and loving spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, April Smith; son, Carlton Ashton and his wife Carla; daughter, Kay Bailey and her husband Larry; sisters, Judy Cruseturner and her husband M.L., and Susan Moody and her husband David; brothers, Wayne Bounds, Jerry Bounds, and Carlton Bounds; grandchildren, Katie Smith, Payton Courtney and her husband Matt, Nicole Hunt and her husband Ryan, Bradley Joe Bailey and his wife Samantha, and Crystal Adams and her husband Payton; great-grandchildren, Kyson Hunt and Riggs Adams; her beloved dog, Dixie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Corine and Ed Bounds; her husband, James Ashton; son, James Ashton Jr.; son-in-law, Michael Smith; brother, James Bounds; mother-in-law, Emma Jean Huggins; father-in-law, Carlton Ashton; and sisters-in-law, Dena Bounds and Becky Russell.
Joyce was a homemaker at heart, dedicated to caring for her family and ensuring that everyone was well-fed and comfortable. Her love for cooking was legendary, and her dumplings were a favorite of many. She enjoyed family get-togethers, fishing, and hunting, and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Joyce’s selflessness and devotion to her family and friends left an indelible mark on all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will be held at Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home in Lufkin on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service officiated by William Havard on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the same location. Serving as pallbearers are Timothy Bounds, Jeffery Bounds, Jeremy Bounds, Benny Free, Scott Cox, Kyle Suggs and River Crawford.
Joyce will be laid to rest at Huntington Cemetery.
