Hubert Carroll

Services for Hubert Carroll, 76, of Lufkin, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Luther Roy Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Wallace Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Carroll, the son of the late Rosie and Luther Carroll, was born March 15, 1937 in Angelina County and passed away August 6, 2013 in a local hospital.

He attended school in Moffett and graduated from Lufkin High School. He joined the Army and served almost three years. He married Mary Wick in 1959; they met at Ray’s Drive-in. They raised two children and moved to Lufkin from Houston in the 70’s and started Hurbert Carroll Logging. He retired from logging in 2001. He enjoyed working, hunting, fishing and working in the woods. He built his own home, boats and a camper. He loved his family. Mr. Carroll enjoyed hunting for arrowheads, gardening and loved making pies, especially chocolate. He was a great caregiver, and a loving husband, father and uncle. He was a member of Herty Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Carroll of Moffett; son and daughter-in-law, Kel and Brenda Carroll of Moffett; daughter and son-in-law, Liz and Steve Reece of Moffett; grandchildren, Jennifer Taylor, Brian Carroll, Kacie Carroll; great-granddaughters, Jada Anne Taylor and Salaira Carroll; brother, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Ray Carroll; sister and brother-in-law, Cubie Gayle and Leon Heaton; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Iris Netherton and granddaughter, Rebecca Taylor Steveson.

Pallbearers will be Brian Carroll, Doug Deaton, Shawn Rice, Steve Reece, Ronnie Allen and Benjamin Grant Conley

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
