Mrs. Neel was born December 8, 1917, the daughter of the late Ruby Lee (Wooten) and Robert Emmett Burns. She passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013.
Elizabeth was born in Carthage, reared in Tenaha and was educated at several colleges, including SFA, TSCW and Austin College. After becoming an Air Force wife, she moved many times in the United States and abroad. She settled in Lufkin in 1968, where she has been a member of First Presbyterian Church. Elizabeth taught school for over 26 years in many places. She enjoyed retirement, traveling the world with her husband, Chester, until his death in 2006, after 64 years of marriage. She drove her own car until her final illness in December, 2012. She was cared for by her family, the staff at Pinecrest, and Heart to Heart Hospice.
Survivors include her son, Chester A. Neel, Jr. and wife Suzanne; daughters, Kay Neel, Mary L. Cantrell and husband John, and Janet L. Neel; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Robert E. Burns; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time on Sunday at Gipson Funeral Home.
