Funeral Services for Charles ‘Dorman’ Forrest, 90, of League City, Texas (formerly of Lufkin) will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin, Texas, with Dr. Andrew G. Pittman and Reverend Aubrey Knox officiating. Interment will follow in the Oddfellow Cemetery in Huntington.
Dorman passed away on the 23rd of April 2013 in Houston, Texas. He was born on March 27, 1923 in the Salem Community of Angelina County, Texas to Charles Abney and Lillian (Davis) Forrest.
Dorman grew up in Huntington, Texas where he attended Huntington High School. After high school, he secretly married the love of his life, Doris Helen Kimmey, on March 15, 1942.
At age 19, Dorman crossed the Atlantic aboard the Queen Mary en route to England and WWII after joining the United States Army. He survived WWII under the leadership of General George Patton in the European Theatre Organization. Dorman served in the 520 Ordinance Company, 3rd Army, WWII.
Dorman would remain separated from his new bride for more than three years while faithfully serving his country. During his service, Dorman toured England, France, Austria, Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg.
After the Allies victory, Dorman returned to the states to begin his married life with wife Helen. He attended Angelina Business College before accepting a job with Lufkin Industries. Dorman later chose a career with Bobo & Wells selling automotive parts before purchasing the company that became Forrest & Associates, Inc. in Dallas, Texas.
Dorman built many fond memories with his family at his second home, Bar D Ranch, in Mineola, Texas; fulfilling his lifelong dream of owning a ranch in the country.
Dorman was a member of the Lufkin’s First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. Dorman’s greatest moments were spent with his wife, two children and three beloved grandchildren.
In addition to his parents; Dorman was preceded in death by his brothers, Murrell, Woodrow and Bobby Forrest; brothers-in-law, Doyle and Edwin Kimmey; sister-in-law, Sybil Kimmey Williams.
Dorman is survived by his spouse of 71 years, Helen Forrest; son, Steve Forrest and wife Amanda; daughter Patti Siewers; granddaughters Cami Lynne Siewers, Jordan Forrest and Brooke Forrest; sister-in-law, Bobbie Lou Forrest; and numerous other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Luis Aguilar, Olen Blake, Steve Forrest, Ray Hunt, Buddy Rush and John-Paul Russo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bo Freeman, Don Roberts and Curtis Spivey.
The family will welcome visitors during visitation from 5 -7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Gipson Funeral Home.
