Archie Donald Rice

Services for Archie Donald Rice, 88, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Carol Whitten Taylor officiating. Eulogy will be given by Mike Rice. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mr. Rice was born October 22, 1928 in Tabor, Texas, the son of the late Alice (Barnes) and John Thomas Rice. He passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 in a local nursing facility.

Mr. Rice was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was retired from Lufkin Industries as an inspector. He enjoyed wood working and traveling to Branson, Missouri with his wife. They enjoyed the gospel and country music shows in Branson. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Kennard. Mr. Rice served his country in the United States Marines.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Harry Lalumandier of Lake Jackson; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Georgia Rice of Brazoria; grandson, Marcus Lalumandier and wife Amy; grandson, Ryan Lalumandier; granddaughter, Cynthia Rice; grandson, Brad Rice; grandson, Brandon Rice and wife Julie; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, D G Rice and wife Lydia, Gilbert Rice and wife Woodie, Charles Ray Rice, Jim Rice, Joe Rice, and Bob Rice and wife Gayle; sister, Marie McIntosh; sisters-in-law, Margie Rice, Evelyn Rice, and Betty Rice; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Lorine Rice; sister-in-law, Lynnise Rice; and brothers, J. T. Rice, Irvin Rice and Elvin Rice.

Pallbearers will be Marcus Lalumandier, Brad Rice, Brandon Rice, Ryan Lalumandier, Allen Ware and Kenny Rudd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Rice’s brothers and Ace Wise.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
